How to Make Delicious Bone Broth Recipe

Bone broth is an essential ingredient for dishes that require broth like soup, stew, or hotpot… The usual way to make bone broth for housewives is simply to buy bones and simmer them to extract the broth.

In fact, to have a delicious and nutritious pot of bone broth is not that simple. You have to know how to choose the right type of bones and meat, along with some types of vegetables, tubers, and spices to create a distinctive flavor, suitable for the dish you plan to cook. The following tips will help you make a perfect pot of broth.

The simmering time will depend on the size of the simmering pot and the amount of water you have put into the pot. You need to choose a large enough pot so that the water can cover all the ingredients inside. While simmering the broth, you need to taste it, if you feel that the taste is not sweet and rich enough, you can continue boiling until the broth is thicker and sweeter.
When the bone broth has completely cooled down, strain it again and store it in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can pour the bone broth into large ice trays and freeze it. They will solidify like candies or chewy treats. When cooking, you just need to take the desired amount of bone broth, the rest can be kept frozen for future use.

1. Some popular bone broth types

– Brown bone broth: To make this type of broth, you can use beef or veal meat that has a lot of bones. Put the meat in a large roasting pan, marinate the meat with 2 peeled and minced onions. Roast the meat in a hot oven for about 1 hour until the meat is golden brown. Continue adding the roasted meat and onions to a large pot and fill it with water until the meat is submerged. Add a few peeled carrots, 2 stalks of celery, a little pepper, 2 bay leaves, a little tarragon, and parsley.

– Chicken broth: Raw whole chicken or chicken bones and wings are both suitable for making broth. Besides, cooked chicken meat can also be used. The chicken meat, after being put into the pot, will be cooked with onions, garlic, carrots, celery, black pepper, bay leaf, and parsley.

2. Cooking technique

Boil the simmering pot over high heat until it boils, then reduce the heat to low. Use a skimmer to remove the foam layer on the surface. The cooking time is from 2 to 3 hours, depending on the amount of bone broth you want to make. During the simmering process, it is necessary to taste the broth regularly to check the flavor, if you feel that the broth is flavorful enough, you can finish the cooking process.

3. Straining the bone broth

To strain the bone broth, use a sieve to separate the cooked broth. Pay attention to remove the fat layer floating on the surface. If you have time, let the broth completely cool down, place it in the refrigerator and let it sit overnight. The next day, you can easily remove the solidified fat layer on top. In case you don’t need to use the bone broth immediately, you should put it in the freezer for longer storage, the quality of the broth will still be guaranteed as usual.
